> Add Chaterimo to Claude as a custom connector to read conversations, tickets and analytics or change chatbot settings. One URL and an OAuth sign-in.

## Key findings

- The Chaterimo MCP server lets Claude read your Chaterimo data (conversations, analytics, products, tickets, leads, sales rules and text entries of the knowledge base) and, with full access, change chatbot settings.
- You add it in Claude as a custom connector with one URL and sign in with your Chaterimo account (OAuth); no code and no API key are needed.
- The read-only URL (https://www.chaterimo.com/mcp-readonly) gives Claude **14 tools** that only read; the full-access URL (https://www.chaterimo.com/mcp) adds 10 tools that change the live chatbot.
- Calls are limited per organisation: 5 a day without a plan, 100 a day in the trial and 1,000 a day on a paid plan.
- Claude Code can use the same URLs as a remote MCP server; clients without OAuth use a token URL from the Developer API page.

The Chaterimo MCP server connects Claude to your Chaterimo account. Claude can then read your chatbot's conversations, analytics, products, tickets and leads, and with full access it can change the chatbot's settings, all from a Claude chat. You add it in Claude as a custom connector with one URL and sign in with your Chaterimo account; no code is needed. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open-source standard that lets AI applications such as Claude connect to tools and data in other systems.[^1]

## What Claude can read and change

Chaterimo offers two connector URLs. Both show Claude only the data of the organisation you choose when you sign in.

| Access | URL | Tools | What Claude can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read-only | `https://www.chaterimo.com/mcp-readonly` | 14 | Read data; change nothing |
| Full access | `https://www.chaterimo.com/mcp` | 24 | Read data and change the chatbot |

The tools by area (a tool is one action Claude can call):

| Area | Read tools (both URLs) | Write tools (full access only) |
|---|---|---|
| Chatbots | `list_chatbots`, `get_chatbot` | `update_chatbot_instructions`, `update_chatbot_model`, `update_chatbot_language`, `update_chatbot_settings` |
| Chat window | in `get_chatbot` | `update_widget_appearance`, `update_widget_messages` |
| Conversations | `list_conversations`, `get_conversation` | none |
| Products | `search_products`, `list_products` | none |
| Tickets | `list_tickets`, `get_ticket` | none |
| Leads | `list_leads` | none |
| Analytics | `get_analytics`, `get_dashboard` | none |
| Sales rules | `list_sales_rules` | none |
| Knowledge base (text entries) | `list_knowledge_base_entries`, `get_knowledge_base_entry` | `create_knowledge_base_entry`, `update_knowledge_base_entry`, `delete_knowledge_base_entry`, `retrain_chatbot` |

Write tools change the live chatbot directly; there is no draft. A new or changed text entry reaches the chatbot after `retrain_chatbot` or after the nightly training. The knowledge base tools see only entries entered as text (Knowledge Base → Get Data → Text Input). Scraped pages, uploaded files and product feeds stay out of their reach. Test conversations from Test Chatbot are left out of the conversation tools.

## Steps

### 1. Choose read-only or full access

Start with the read-only URL. It is enough for summaries of recent conversations, open tickets, new leads and analytics. Use the full-access URL only when you want Claude to rewrite the chatbot's instructions, switch its AI model, change the chat window or edit text entries of the knowledge base. On a paid Claude plan you can add both, as two connectors with different names.

### 2. Copy the connector URL from Chaterimo

In Chaterimo, open **Developer API** in the menu (under **Account**). Expand **MCP Connector for Claude Desktop / Cowork**. Under **Copy this URL:**, copy the read-only URL. For full access, open **Need write access? Use the full-access URL** and copy that one.

### 3. Add a custom connector in Claude

In Claude on the web or in the Claude desktop app, open **Customize** → **Connectors**, select **+ Add** and then **Add custom connector**.[^2] Enter `Chaterimo` as the name, paste the URL and select **Continue**. Claude detects that Chaterimo uses a sign-in; keep the detected settings, select **Continue** and then **Add**.

On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner adds the connector for the whole organisation under **Organization settings** → **Connectors** (**Add** → **Custom** → **Web**). Each member then selects **Connect** at the connector under **Customize** → **Connectors**.[^2]

### 4. Sign in and authorize access

Claude opens Chaterimo in your browser. Sign in with your Chaterimo account. The **Authorize Connector** page shows the type of connector (**Read-only MCP** or **Full-access MCP**) and the **Requested access**. If you own several organisations, choose one under **Organisation**; the connector sees only that organisation. Select **Authorize Connector**.

Claude then receives an access token. You never see it and never copy it. The token is valid for one hour, and Claude renews it in the background for up to 30 days; after that, you sign in again.

### 5. Turn the connector on in a chat and ask

In a Claude chat, select **+** in the lower left, then **Connectors**, and turn on Chaterimo for the conversation.[^2] Then ask in plain words, for example:

- “Show me the last 5 Chaterimo conversations.”
- “How is my chatbot performing this week?”
- “Are there any open support tickets?”
- “List leads captured this week.”
- “Summarise the questions about delivery from the last 7 days and tell me what my knowledge base is missing.”

Claude chooses the tools itself. One question can need several tool calls, for example a list of conversations and then each conversation.

## Claude Code and other MCP clients

Claude Code adds a remote MCP server with one command and signs in with the `/mcp` command.[^3]

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http chaterimo https://www.chaterimo.com/mcp-readonly
```

Then run `/mcp` in Claude Code, choose Chaterimo and finish the sign-in in the browser as in step 4. Chaterimo registers Claude Code as an OAuth client automatically, so you need no client ID or secret.[^3]

MCP clients without OAuth use a token URL instead. Create a key under **Developer API** → **Create API Key**, tick the **Scopes** the client may use and select **Create Key**. The section **Legacy token URLs — for clients without OAuth support** then shows a **Read-only URL** and a **Full-access URL** for the key. The tools of a token URL follow the scopes of its key.

> **Warning**
>
> A token URL works without a sign-in, so anyone who has it can read your data. Treat it like a password: never share it and never commit it to a repository (in Claude Code, do not add it with `--scope project`, which writes it to the shared `.mcp.json` file). If a URL leaks, select **Revoke** at its key on the Developer API page.

## Limits

Each tool call counts as one call. The limits apply per organisation and are shared by all its connectors and API keys ([Chaterimo MCP page](https://www.chaterimo.com/en/mcp/), October 2026):

| Plan | Calls per minute | Calls per day |
|---|---|---|
| No active plan | 5 | 5 |
| Free trial | 10 | 100 |
| Paid plan | 30 | 1,000 |

The daily count starts again at midnight Prague time. Your current use is under **Developer API** → **MCP Usage & Limits** (**Used Today**).

## How to check it works

1. In a new Claude chat with the connector turned on, ask “List my chatbots.” Claude calls `list_chatbots` and answers with the names of your chatbots.
2. In Chaterimo, open **Developer API**. **Used Today** under **MCP Usage & Limits** has grown by the number of calls.
3. With a read-only connector, ask Claude to change the welcome message. It cannot: the read-only connector does not offer write tools.

## Troubleshooting

Claude shows “Couldn't connect”
: Remove the connector in Claude and add it again. If it still fails, add it once more and, under **OAuth client**, choose **Use your own OAuth client**. Type any text, for example `chaterimo`, as the client ID, leave the secret empty and sign in as usual. If your dialog shows **Advanced settings** instead, enter the client ID there.[^4]

“MCP daily limit reached for this organisation.”
: The organisation used its calls for today. Wait until midnight Prague time, or choose a plan on the [pricing page](https://www.chaterimo.com/en/pricing/) for a higher limit.

“MCP minute limit reached for this organisation.”
: Too many calls in one minute. Wait a minute and ask again.

“This connector is read-only and does not expose write tools.”
: You connected the read-only URL. Add a second connector with the full-access URL if Claude should change the chatbot.

Claude cannot see the knowledge base tools
: The connector was added before the knowledge base tools existed. Remove it, add it again and approve the knowledge base access on the Authorize Connector page.

Claude shows data of another organisation
: The connector belongs to the organisation you chose when you signed in. Remove it, add it again and choose the right organisation.

“Invalid or revoked MCP token”
: The key of the token URL was revoked. Create a new key and use its URL.

## Next step

Ask Claude to read last week's conversations and list the questions your chatbot could not answer well. Add the missing facts to the knowledge base, then compare models on the same questions with our [guide to choosing an LLM for customer support](https://www.chaterimo.com/en/blog/how-to-choose-llm-for-customer-support/). Our [research on AI customer support in e-commerce](https://www.chaterimo.com/en/blog/state-of-ai-customer-support/) shows what shoppers ask and when.

**Which Chaterimo plans can use the MCP server?**

Every plan, the free trial too. The plan sets the limit, which is 100 calls a day in the trial and 1,000 a day on a paid plan.

**Can Claude change my chatbot through MCP?**

Only through the full-access URL. It can then rewrite the instructions, switch the AI model and language, change the chat window and its texts, edit text entries of the knowledge base and start a retraining. The read-only URL cannot change anything.

**Does Claude see my customers' e-mail addresses?**

Yes, where Chaterimo stores them. Leads and tickets include contact details, and conversations contain what customers wrote. Claude processes this data under the terms of your Claude account, so connect a Claude account your company approves for customer data.

**What does Chaterimo log about the calls?**

For each call, the tool name, the time, how long it took, whether it failed, the names and sizes of its arguments and the size of the response; for each day, the IP address and the client of the connection. Chaterimo does not store the content Claude reads or sends.

**Do I need a Chaterimo API key for Claude?**

No. Claude signs in with your Chaterimo account (OAuth). API keys and token URLs are only for clients without OAuth support.
